Kurdish-Led SDF Dissolves Under Syria Integration Agreement

Kurdish-Led SDF Dissolves Under Syria Integration Agreement

The Syrian Democratic Forces, or SDF, was a Kurdish-led group that fought Islamic State in Syria.

Its leader, Mazloum Abdi, said the group would no longer operate as a separate army.

The SDF’s fighters and institutions are being brought into Syria’s government forces and state structures.

This follows an agreement reached with the Syrian government in January.

Government troops had taken large areas previously controlled by the SDF during clashes.

The United States had supported the SDF in its fight against Islamic State.

The agreement gives Syria’s government more control over the country.

Kurdish leaders say they will still work to protect Kurdish rights in Syria’s constitution.
