Windows Hello Face Unlock No Longer Works in the Dark
Windows Hello, which unlocks your Windows 11 computer with your face, has changed.
Now, it won't work in the dark unless your computer has a special camera.
This is because of a recent update from Microsoft.
The update makes Windows Hello more secure by requiring color cameras to see your face.
Previously, it used infrared, like Apple's Face ID, to recognize your face.
This change was made to fix a security problem that could let someone trick the system into unlocking.
Windows Hello face unlock no longer works in the dark by default.
This change resulted from Windows 11 update OS Build 26100.3775, released in April.
Users now need webcams that support color cameras for low-light sign-in.
The update aims to improve security by addressing vulnerability CVE-2025-26644.
Previously, Windows Hello used infrared sensors for facial recognition.
