Railway Supervisors Seek Higher, Graded Pay Factors from Eighth Commission
A railway supervisors’ association has asked the Eighth Pay Commission to change how railway employees’ pay is calculated.
It wants higher pay multipliers for higher pay levels instead of one multiplier for everyone.
The proposed multipliers range from 2.92 to 4.38.
The association also wants annual pay increases to rise from 3% to 5%.
It has asked for extra increments when employees are promoted.
It says technical railway jobs can involve more responsibility, safety duties and working hours than some office jobs.
It also wants family needs and additional expenses included when minimum pay is calculated.
These requests are only proposals, so they are not yet approved.
The commission and then the government will decide what changes, if any, are made.
The Indian Railways Technical Supervisors’ Association proposed graded fitment factors ranging from 2.92 to 4.38 across pay levels.
Its memorandum seeks a 5% annual increment, up from 3%, and promotional increments equal to two annual increments.
IRTSA argues that pay factors should reflect differences in responsibility, technical demands and safety duties.
The association also wants minimum-pay calculations to use 4.6 consumption units per family and include expenses such as internet and health insurance.
These are proposals, not approved pay revisions; the commission’s recommendations and the government’s decisions will determine the final structure.
