Wild Cat, Penguin and Snake Among Newly Discovered Species
Scientists have found several animals that were not known to science before.
One is a wild cat in Bolivia called Leopardus tilcayo.
It is the first newly discovered feline species in about 100 years.
Another is a penguin found on subantarctic islands.
This is also the first new penguin species reported in a century.
A snake from New Guinea was named after the musician Slash.
A 2025 study says scientists discovered 15% of all known species during the last 20 years.
These findings show that there is still much life on Earth for people to learn about.
Leopardus tilcayo, a wild cat discovered in Bolivia, is reportedly the first feline species found in 100 years.
A new penguin species was identified on a group of subantarctic islands, also marking a first in a century.
A newly discovered snake in New Guinea was named after Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash.
A 2025 University of Arizona study found that 15% of all known species were discovered in the previous 20 years.
The discoveries are presented as evidence that scientists continue identifying biodiversity despite growing fears about global catastrophe.
