Thane Court Denies Bail in Digital Arrest Fraud Case
Imagine someone pretending to be a CBI officer calls you and says you're in trouble, like with drugs or money laundering.
They scare you into sending them money, which is a trick called 'digital arrest.'
A chairman of a credit society in India was arrested for helping in this scam, where a doctor was tricked out of over 3 crore rupees.
The money went through many accounts, some even turned into digital money called cryptocurrency, and ended up with someone in Pakistan.
The court said the case is serious because it involves criminals overseas and money transfers, and that's why the chairman can't be let out on bail just yet.
Thane Sessions Court denied bail to Kishor Bansilal Jain, chairman of a co-op credit society.
Jain and two others were arrested for allegedly duping a consultant anaesthetist of over Rs 3 crore via a digital arrest fraud.
The court cited the serious nature of the offence, involving international money transfers and cryptocurrency.
The complainant, a doctor, was threatened with arrest and coerced into transferring Rs 3.04 crore.
The money was routed through multiple accounts, with some converted to cryptocurrency and transferred to a Pakistani national.
