Telangana Wins National Award for Organ Donation
Telangana got a big award!
They have the best organ donation program in all of India.
That means more people in Telangana are choosing to donate organs after they die.
In 2024, almost 5 out of every million people in Telangana donated organs, which is much higher than the rest of the country.
The government's program, called Jeevandan, helps make this happen.
Thanks to these efforts, many people have received life-saving organ transplants.
Telangana received a national award for having the highest organ donation rate in India.
The state's organ donation rate in 2024 was 4.88 donors per million population (pmp).
This rate significantly surpasses the national average of 0.8 pmp.
The award was presented at the 15th Indian Organ Donation Day celebrations in New Delhi.
The Jeevandan initiative in Telangana has facilitated numerous donations and transplants since 2012.
