SpaceX Starship Conducts Static Fire Test for Ninth Flight
SpaceX is getting ready to launch its Starship rocket again!
Before each launch, they test the rocket's engines by firing them up while the rocket is still on the ground.
This is called a static fire.
Recently, the upper stage of the Starship rocket had a successful static fire test, meaning all its engines worked correctly for about a minute.
This test is a crucial step before the rocket's ninth flight, bringing them closer to their goal of reusable rockets and, eventually, sending people to Mars.
SpaceX conducted a full-duration static fire test of Starship's upper stage on May 12th.
The test involved firing all six Raptor engines for about 60 seconds.
This was the third static fire test for this particular Starship vehicle.
The test is a key milestone before the upcoming ninth flight of Starship.
The goal of Starship is to be fully reusable, enabling missions to the Moon and Mars.
