US-South Korea Military Drills Cut Short After Trump Order

US-South Korea Military Drills Cut Short After Trump Order

The United States and South Korea hold military exercises called Ulchi Freedom Shield.

The drills are meant to help the two countries practice responding to security threats.

They were scheduled to end on August 27 but will now end on August 21.

The United States asked for the exercises to be shorter and smaller.

Some outdoor and live-training activities were reduced, canceled, or changed into computer simulations.

A US official said important training goals would still be met.

North Korea says these exercises look like practice for an invasion.

President Donald Trump linked his order to his relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and other disagreements with South Korea.
