India to have 100 tsunami-ready villages
India is going to have more than 100 villages that are ready for tsunamis.
These villages will have special training and tools to keep people safe.
They will know what to do if a tsunami comes, like where to go and how to get warnings.
India will be the first country in the Indian Ocean area to have so many villages ready for tsunamis.
The villages will have maps showing safe places to go and will practice with mock drills.
A group called UNESCO-IOC will give them a special certificate for being ready.
India will have over 100 tsunami-ready villages in the Indian Ocean region.
This makes India the first country in the region with this many tsunami-ready villages.
Tsunami-ready villages must have high awareness, hazard preparedness, and mapping.
They must also have public display of evacuation maps, 24-hour warning systems, and participate in mock drills.
The certification is awarded by UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC).
