France Hands Emergency Aid to Nepal After Bhotekoshi Floods
France gave emergency supplies to Nepal after serious floods.
The supplies were handed over in Kathmandu on Tuesday, September 15.
The floods began after an ice-rock avalanche near the Nepal-Tibet border.
Floodwaters traveled through the Bhotekoshi River and damaged many communities.
About 1,400 people were reported killed, and more than 5,000 were still missing.
The aid will help with immediate rescue, relief and recovery work.
France said it stands with Nepal’s people and government.
More help will also come through United Nations agencies, the Red Cross and French aid organizations.
The French Embassy in Nepal handed an emergency aid consignment to Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.
The assistance is intended to support immediate relief and recovery after the August 26 Bhotekoshi flash floods.
French Ambassador-designate Françoise Puig-Inza handed over the consignment to Minister Mahabir Pun.
The materials were supplied following requests from Nepal’s government through the European Union’s Civil Protection Mechanism.
The floods reportedly killed around 1,400 people, left more than 5,000 missing, and damaged homes, roads, bridges, vehicles and hydropower projects.
