BCCI Weighs ‘B’ Team Over Japan Asian Games Facilities
India plans to play cricket at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
Cricket officials are unhappy with some of the facilities prepared for the players.
They say the dressing rooms are in tents and the washrooms are about 500 metres away.
They also say the hotel rooms are very small.
The BCCI will send an observer to check the arrangements.
After seeing the observer’s report, India may send a less experienced ‘B’ team instead of its strongest players.
India has already announced strong men’s and women’s squads.
India won the men’s cricket gold medal at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, although one image caption incorrectly referred to the achievement as occurring in 2024.
The BCCI and Asian Cricket Council are dissatisfied with reported cricket arrangements in Japan.
Concerns include tented dressing rooms, washrooms 500 metres away, and small hotel rooms.
A BCCI observer is expected to inspect the facilities before India makes a final decision.
India may replace its announced full-strength men’s and women’s squads with a ‘B’ team if standards are not met.
The men’s tournament is scheduled for September 24–October 3, while the women’s event is scheduled for September 17–22.
