Putin Claims Russian Forces Surround Pokrovsk
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russian forces have surrounded the Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk and control 70% of it.
He claimed that Ukrainian troops in Pokrovsk and the nearby town of Myrnohrad are in deep trouble.
However, Ukraine's top commander, Oleksandr Syrskyi, said that Ukrainian forces are pushing back hard and that fighting is still ongoing in the city center.
Both sides have different maps showing control of the area.
The battle is important because Pokrovsk is a key logistics hub and a gateway to other major Ukrainian-controlled cities in the Donetsk region.
The United States is trying to broker a peace plan to end the conflict.
