Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Ratifies GST Act Amendments
The leaders in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly voted to accept some new changes to the tax rules.
These changes were already decided by a bigger group that makes tax rules for the whole country.
The main leader, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, presented these changes to the assembly.
One politician wanted to make different changes, but the Speaker explained that they couldn't because the new rules came from the national group and the assembly could only agree or disagree.
So, after a quick vote, the assembly agreed to the new tax rules.
The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly ratified amendments to the Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017.
These amendments were recently passed by the GST Council.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah moved the bill for ratification.
BJP MLA Pawan Gupta's attempt to introduce further amendments was denied by the Speaker.
The bill was ultimately passed by a voice vote.

Amending the GST Act
Speaker's Stance
Amendments to the GST Act cannot be made by the state assembly at this stage, as the GST is a federal act and changes must come from the GST Council. The assembly can only ratify what has been approved.
BJP MLA's Stance
The state should have the power to introduce its own reforms and amendments to the Act, even if related to the GST, suggesting a degree of state autonomy in financial legislation.
