AI Chipflation and Tariffs Drive U.S. Inflation Higher

Prices in the United States are rising faster than the Federal Reserve wants.

Researchers studied two important causes: tariffs and the growing demand for artificial-intelligence equipment.

They estimated that each factor added about the same amount to core inflation by July 2026.

AI companies are buying large amounts of computer chips, memory, storage, and cooling equipment.

This has made some products, such as laptops, tablets, smartphones, and game consoles, more expensive.

Tariffs also appear to be raising prices, especially for clothing and shoes.

Some tariff costs may not have reached shoppers yet, including costs connected to new cars.

Even without tariffs, researchers said inflation would still be above the Federal Reserve’s target.
