Paratrooper Dies in J-K Terrorist Encounter
A gunfight started on Sunday between security forces and terrorists in a remote forested area in the upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district.
The security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation after getting information that terrorists were hiding there.
The terrorists opened fire first, and the security forces responded, leading to a gunfight.
One paratrooper was killed, and eight soldiers were injured during the encounter, most of them suffering splinter injuries from a grenade blast.
More forces were sent to the area to help, and the area was closed off to stop the terrorists from escaping.
The hilly districts of Jammu division have been under watch because of reports that Pakistani terrorists are moving around in the forests.
In a meeting on January 8, the Union Home Minister gave orders to carry out operations to eliminate terrorists and prevent them from crossing the border.
This is the third encounter between the security forces and terrorists in the Jammu region this year.
Advanced surveillance equipment, including drones and helicopters, have been deployed to speed up the operation.
The Army paid tribute to the fallen soldier, describing his death as a supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
A gunfight erupted between security forces and terrorists in the Sonnar village near Mandral-Singhpora, Chatroo area, Kishtwar district on Sunday.
One paratrooper was killed, and eight soldiers were injured during the encounter, mostly due to splinter wounds from a grenade attack.
The operation, named 'Operation Trashi-I' by the Indian Army's White Knight Corps, began around noon.
Security forces came in contact with two to three foreign terrorists allegedly belonging to the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).
Additional reinforcements from the army, CRPF, and police were rushed to tighten the cordon, and advanced surveillance equipment, including drones and helicopters, were deployed.
