AIADMK, BJP oppose CM Vijay's delimitation resolution in Assembly

Tamil Nadu is a state in India, and its leader, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, made a special request called a resolution in the state Assembly.

He does not want India to change how many seats each state gets in Parliament, because that might give Tamil Nadu fewer seats.

Right now, the number of seats is based on old population numbers from 1971.

Tamil Nadu helped families have fewer children, so its population did not grow as fast as some other states.

Vijay wants Parliament to stay at 543 seats and each state's share to stay the same.

But two political parties in the Assembly, the AIADMK and the BJP, said they would not support his resolution.

They agreed that Tamil Nadu should not lose any seats, but they think the request is too early and made for political reasons.

The AIADMK even said Tamil Nadu might gain more seats if the rules change fairly.

Everyone agreed on one thing: one-third of the seats should be reserved for women in the next election.
