Meghalaya HC Orders Police Accountability Commission Formation
Imagine the police need to be checked to make sure they are doing their jobs correctly.
In Meghalaya, a law says there should be a special group, called the Accountability Commission, to do this.
This group should look into any problems or mistakes by the police.
The law says this group should have been created a long time ago, but it never was.
Now, the High Court has told the government they must create this group within four months.
This group can investigate if the police are not doing a fair job.
It can also speed up investigations or give advice on how to handle complaints against the police.
Meghalaya High Court ordered the state government to establish the Accountability Commission.
The order was in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL).
The Commission is mandated by the Meghalaya Police Act, 2010.
The Act requires the Commission to be set up within three months of the Act's enforcement.
The Court has given the government four months to comply with the order.
