Mumbai Bikers Skid on Super-Smooth Mrinaltai Gore Flyover
A new flyover in Mumbai is causing concern for people riding motorcycles.
Videos show several bikers appearing to slip and fall near the same turn.
Residents say the road surface is very smooth and is on a downward slope.
They say rain makes the surface even more slippery.
People want city officials to check the road and make it safer.
A dumper also crashed into the flyover wall a few days earlier.
Part of a barrier fell onto the road below, but no one was hurt.
The civic authority says some patchy areas are caused by the way mastic asphalt is laid, not by structural failure.
The flyover opened in June after years of construction delays.
Videos show multiple bikers allegedly skidding near a turn on the Mrinaltai Gore Flyover Extension.
Residents say the extremely smooth mastic surface becomes especially slippery on the downward slope during rain.
Commuters have asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to inspect the road and improve tyre grip.
A dumper allegedly crashed into the flyover wall and vision barrier on August 28, causing part of the barrier to fall onto S V Road; no injuries were reported.
The 750-metre, four-lane extension opened on June 6, 2026, after nearly six years of delays and a reported cost increase from Rs 170 crore to Rs 248 crore.

Motorists’ Concerns
Civic Authority’s Position
Road surface safety
Motorists’ Concerns
Residents and commuters say the extremely smooth mastic surface, particularly on a downward slope, becomes more slippery during rain and may cause two-wheelers to lose grip. They want the stretch inspected and potentially made rougher.
Civic Authority’s Position
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has said that the patchy appearance in some areas is linked to the mastic asphalt road-laying process and does not indicate structural failure.
Construction quality
Motorists’ Concerns
Citizens have raised concerns about loose grit, melting bitumen, uneven patches, and repeated skidding. Some have called for an independent technical audit, including an inspection by IIT Bombay.
Civic Authority’s Position
The BMC’s reported explanation attributes visible irregularities to the paving process; the articles do not report that an independent audit has been completed.
