Odisha Intensifies Sickle Cell and Thalassemia Screening Drive
Imagine your blood cells are like little red cars, and sometimes they get a strange shape, like a sickle.
This can cause problems!
The Odisha government is going around to check people for this and another blood issue called thalassemia.
They're looking in areas where these problems are more common.
They check kids at school and pregnant women, and they have special clinics.
If they find someone with these issues, the government helps with money for travel, free blood, and medicine to help them stay healthy.
They also help with bone marrow transplants for kids.
Odisha government is intensifying its drive to detect sickle cell disease (SCD) and thalassemia.
The focus is on high-risk zones within the state.
Screening programs are being conducted at schools, Anganwadi centers, and community levels.
Over 46.65 lakh screenings have been done, with 97,501 sickle cell cases identified.
Patients receive financial aid, free blood, and medicines through government hospitals.
