Ford to Launch Level 3 Driver-Assistance System in 2028

Ford to Launch Level 3 Driver-Assistance System in 2028

Ford is planning to introduce a new driver-assistance system in 2028 that will allow drivers to take their hands and eyes off the road on certain highways.

This system, called Level 3, will first be available on a new electric vehicle platform, with the first model being a midsize EV truck launching in 2027 at a price of around $30,000.

The system will use lidar technology and will be an optional feature for an additional fee.

Ford is developing this technology in-house to reduce costs and improve quality.

Other automakers like Mercedes-Benz and General Motors are also working on similar systems, while some like Stellantis have shelved their plans due to high costs and technological challenges.

This technology is seen as a step towards fully autonomous cars, which could open up new markets for ride-hailing and personal self-driving vehicles.
