Railway Board Reclaims Authority Over Project Surveys
Imagine the Railway Board is like the boss of a big train company.
They used to let the managers of different areas (zones) decide if they could study and plan new train projects.
This helped speed things up.
But, the boss noticed that these zone managers weren't always telling the boss what they were doing quickly, and they kept asking for extra money.
This caused problems answering important questions.
So, the boss decided to take back the power to approve these studies, so they can keep everything running smoothly and on time.
The Railway Board revoked the authority of zonal railways to sanction feasibility studies and final location surveys.
This decision was made due to delays in timely communication with the Board.
In October 2022, GMs and DRMs were initially empowered to approve these surveys.
The board aims to expedite new projects for infrastructure enhancements.
The Railway Board is working on a master plan to increase cargo capacity by 2030.
