India's First Made-in-India C-295 Aircraft Takes Flight
India has built its first military aircraft called the C-295.
This aircraft was made in India by a company called Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) in Gujarat.
The government of India signed a big deal worth $2.6 billion with a company called Airbus to buy 56 of these aircraft.
The first 16 aircraft came from Spain, and the rest are being built in India.
The first aircraft made in India had its first test flight on June 10.
The government and the companies involved are very happy because this is the first time a military aircraft is being made in India by a private company.
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, also talked about this in his radio show, saying it's a big success for India's aerospace sector.
The minister also said that India is moving towards a future where its citizens will fly in domestically manufactured civil aircraft, as the country's aerospace manufacturing capabilities continue to expand under the 'Make in India' initiative.
India's first Made-in-India C-295 military transport aircraft completed its maiden test flight on June 10.
The aircraft is being assembled by Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) in Vadodara, Gujarat.
India signed a $2.6 billion contract with Airbus to purchase 56 C-295 aircraft to replace the aging Avro-748 fleet.
The first 16 aircraft were delivered from Airbus's facility in Seville, Spain, and the remaining 40 are being assembled in India.
The project is seen as a game-changer for India's 'Make in India' initiative and is the first instance of a military aircraft being manufactured in India by the private sector.
