ECI Progress in SIR Phase II
The Election Commission of India has made a lot of progress in updating voter lists in 12 states and territories.
They have given out enrollment forms to almost all voters and started digitizing them.
Some places like Goa and Lakshadweep have done really well.
However, there is a controversy because a minister in Jharkhand said people should lock up the officers who come to check the voter lists.
The minister also said that many names were deleted in Bihar, but the ECI says the final number is different.
Many people are worried about the short time given to complete this work.
ECI reports significant progress in SIR Phase II with over 99% electors receiving Enumeration Forms (EFs) in 12 states and UTs.
Over 50.47 crore EFs distributed, with nearly 40% digitized; Goa and Lakshadweep lead in digitization.
ECI urges political parties to appoint more Booth Level Agents to speed up the process.
Jharkhand Minister Irfan Ansari controversially suggests locking up BLOs, alleging the SIR is meant to delete names from voter rolls and Aadhaar cards.
ECI disputes Jharkhand Minister's claim, stating that 42 lakh names were excluded in Bihar's final roll, not 65 lakh as alleged.
