India Launches Mega Shipbuilding Initiatives
The Indian government has announced big plans to make more ships in India.
They have two new schemes: one to help pay for building ships and another to improve shipbuilding places.
The government will give money to help build new ships and fix old shipyards.
They also want to make a place for learning and researching about ships.
This is all to make India better at building ships and compete with other countries.
The government thinks this will create lots of jobs and make India less dependent on other countries for ships.
The Indian government notified operational guidelines for two major shipbuilding initiatives: SBFAS and SbDS, with a total budget of Rs 44,700 crore.
SBFAS offers fiscal assistance of 15% to 25% per vessel and includes setting up a National Shipbuilding Mission.
SbDS focuses on developing greenfield shipbuilding clusters, expanding existing shipyards, and establishing an India Ship Technology Centre.
The schemes aim to boost domestic shipbuilding capacity, create jobs, and reduce reliance on imported ships.
The initiatives are part of the government's broader vision to make India a major global maritime player by 2047.
