Sebi Extends Deadline for Mutual Fund Incentives
Sebi, the markets regulator in India, has pushed back the date for a new rule that gives extra money to people who help others invest in mutual funds.
This rule was supposed to start on February 1, 2026, but now it will start on March 1, 2026.
The extra money is for helping new investors from smaller cities or new women investors.
The helpers get 1% of the first investment, up to Rs 2,000, if the investor stays for at least a year.
This extra money comes from the money that mutual fund companies already set aside for teaching people about investing.
It won't apply to certain types of funds, like very short-term ones.
Sebi extended the deadline for the new incentive structure for mutual fund distributors to March 1, 2026.
The incentives aim to promote wider outreach and awareness, targeting new individual investors from B-30 cities and new women investors.
Distributors will receive 1% of the first investment or SIP amount, up to Rs 2,000, provided the investor stays invested for at least a year.
The commission comes from the 2 basis points AMCs already set aside for investor education and is paid over and above existing trail commissions.
The additional commission does not apply to ETFs, certain Fund of Funds, and very short-duration schemes.
