Karnataka Considers New Anti-Terrorism Unit
The Karnataka Police are thinking about creating a new team to fight terrorism.
This idea came after the country's Home Minister, Amit Shah, suggested that all states should have similar teams to work better together.
Right now, Karnataka has different groups doing this job, which can cause confusion.
The new team would combine some of these groups and follow a standard plan suggested by the National Investigation Agency.
This should help them share information and work more efficiently with other states and central agencies.
Karnataka Police are considering forming a new Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) following a call for uniformity by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
A meeting was held on January 5, 2025, to discuss the creation of a state ATS aligned with the National Investigation Agency's (NIA) structure.
Currently, Karnataka has multiple units dealing with anti-terrorism activities, causing coordination issues with central agencies.
The Internal Security Division (ISD) in Karnataka, created in 2008, has not been actively involved in anti-terrorism investigations like ATS units in other states.
The Karnataka Police are likely to propose a new ATS structure to the state government for approval, merging existing units for better coordination.
