Delhi Cancels 1.79 Lakh Ration Cards
The Delhi government has cancelled more than 1.79 lakh ration cards, which means nearly 7.45 lakh people can no longer get subsidized food grains.
This happened because the government checked who was eligible and found that some people didn't meet the rules.
For example, some people had incomes that were too high, others didn't collect their food grains for a year, and some cards were for people who had passed away or were duplicates.
The government is now issuing new ration cards to those who are eligible and processing old applications.
They have also raised the income limit for new applicants to get a ration card.
The Delhi government cancelled 1,79,825 ration cards, removing 7,45,000 beneficiaries from the PDS.
The largest share of cancellations was due to households with incomes exceeding Rs 6 lakh annually.
Over 97,634 beneficiaries were removed for not collecting rations for 12 consecutive months.
The government is issuing new ration cards and processing pending applications.
The income threshold for new ration card applicants has been raised to Rs 2.50 lakh annually.
