Heavy Rains Raise River Levels Across Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand

Heavy rain fell across parts of northern India.

The rain made several rivers rise quickly.

In Dehradun, the Tamasa River became much fuller near a historic temple.

In Prayagraj, water from the Ganga and Yamuna reached some homes near the riverbanks.

In Varanasi, rising Ganga water covered some low-lying areas and affected activity near the ghats.

Officials placed emergency teams near rivers to help keep people safe.

Schools and Anganwadi centres in Dehradun were closed for one day because more severe weather was expected.

The Ganga also rose in Rishikesh, but officials said it was still below dangerous levels.
