Anaemia Delays DNA Tests for Five Odisha Baby Orangutans

Anaemia Delays DNA Tests for Five Odisha Baby Orangutans

Five baby orangutans were found in Odisha, India.

Nobody yet knows where they came from.

Scientists need DNA tests to identify their origins, but those tests have been delayed.

The babies are anxious, and doctors can take only a small amount of blood from them.

Blood tests showed that one baby is very anaemic and two others are moderately anaemic.

The animals are receiving iron supplements and paracetamol for a fever.

Doctors also used chest X-rays because one baby had sneezing and coughing symptoms.

The babies are being kept in a temperature-controlled room at Nandankanan Zoological Park.

Officials are investigating whether the animals may be connected to wildlife trafficking.
