Uttar Pradesh leaders debate SIR
In Uttar Pradesh, leaders from different political parties are discussing and working on updating the voter list, which is called the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
Akhilesh Yadav from the Samajwadi Party and Yogi Adityanath from the BJP are both focused on making sure the voter list is accurate.
Akhilesh praised his party workers and said there are problems with the SIR application that might stop people from voting.
Yogi Adityanath told his workers to go door-to-door to make sure everyone's name is on the list, especially newly married women and people who have moved.
The Election Commission might extend the deadline for finishing this work in some states because it's taking longer than expected.
Meanwhile, in a big debate in the Lok Sabha, Amit Shah from the BJP accused the Opposition parties of not wanting to update the voter list because they want to keep illegal immigrants as voters.
The Opposition parties say the SIR is rushed and causing problems for people.
Both sides are arguing about who is right and who is wrong.
Akhilesh Yadav praised Samajwadi Party workers for their vigilance during the SIR of electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh and claimed flaws in the SIR mapping application could deprive millions of their voting rights.
Yogi Adityanath directed BJP workers to prioritize the SIR and conduct door-to-door campaigns to ensure accurate voter lists, focusing on newly married women and migrants.
Amit Shah accused Opposition parties of opposing the SIR to retain illegal immigrants as voters, calling it 'vote chori' (electoral fraud).
Opposition parties, including Congress, TMC, and CPI(M), criticized the SIR as rushed and politically motivated, leading to stress and inconvenience for voters and Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
The Election Commission is likely to extend the SIR deadline for Uttar Pradesh and several other states, including West Bengal and Kerala, due to the progress of digitization and submission of enumeration forms.
