Youths paraded with barbed wire over theft suspicion in MP
In India, there is a place called Madhya Pradesh.
Some people thought three young men had stolen big metal cables.
The grown-ups in that area were very angry.
Instead of calling the police, they decided to punish the young men themselves.
They put sharp wire, called barbed wire, around their necks.
They also hit the young men with slippers and kicked them.
Someone recorded a video of this and put it on the internet for everyone to see.
The police said that punishing people is the police's job, not something others should do.
The police also said they will look into what happened to the young men who were hurt.
They want to find out everything that really happened.
Three youths were paraded with bundles of barbed wire around their necks and beaten with slippers, kicked and punched by locals in Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara district.
The assault happened over suspicion that the trio stole iron cables from the closed filter plant premises of state-run Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) in the Iklehra township of the Pench area.
Locals identified the suspects after reviewing CCTV footage and called them for questioning before the assault.
A video of the assault, showing people including WCL security guards targeting the men, has gone viral on social media.
Police inspector Khemchand Patel said it is the police's job to take legal measures, action will be taken against those who assaulted the youths, and the matter is being thoroughly investigated.
