Karimnagar Residents Face Water Scarcity as Borewells Dry Up

In a town called Karimnagar, people are running out of water.

The underground wells, called borewells, that give homes water have gone dry.

This is partly because a big dam nearby, the Lower Manair Dam, has much less water than before.

Even though it is the rainy season, it has not actually rained much in two months.

When it doesn't rain, the ground does not get fresh water to soak up.

The town's water authority now gives water only every other day.

Because of that, many people have to pay for water trucks to bring them drinking water.

One resident, M. Satyanarayana, hires tankers for six families living in his building.

An official explains that wells dry up naturally when the water in nearby lakes and dams goes down.

Many other villages depend on the same dam for their water too.
