Pragati Centres Planned in Hyderabad to Support Gig Workers
The government and an online grocery company want to create special places for gig workers in Hyderabad.
These places will be called Pragati Centres.
Delivery workers can stop there to rest during the day.
They can also use important facilities.
The centres will be open to workers from many different companies.
A survey found that many workers do not have clean toilets nearby.
Most also lack shade or ways to stay cool while working.
The project is meant to make their workday safer and more comfortable.
The state government and an online grocery delivery app signed an MoU to establish Pragati Centres in Hyderabad.
The centres will provide gig workers with rest areas and essential facilities during the working day.
Workers from quick commerce, food delivery, e-commerce, apparel and other platforms can use the centres.
A 2024 survey found nearly 69% of workers lacked clean washrooms.
More than 80% reported having no shaded resting areas or cooling facilities while working.
