Assam Martyrs’ Memorial Park to Open
A new park called the Martyrs’ Memorial Park is opening in Assam on December 10.
This park is to honor the 860 people who died during a big movement in Assam called the Assam Movement.
The park has statues of the martyrs, a tall tower, a place to meditate, and even a light show that tells the story of the movement.
The park is also meant to be a place where people can learn about the history of the movement and where tourists can visit.
The leader of the group that asked for this park, Samujjal Bhattacharya, is happy that the park is finally being built but says that the goals of the movement are not yet fully achieved.
The Martyrs’ Memorial Park in Boragaon, Guwahati, will be inaugurated on December 10 to honor 860 martyrs of the Assam Movement.
The park spans 100 bighas and features busts of 869 martyrs, a tall tower, a meditation center, a light and sound show, cycle and jogging tracks, and an auditorium.
The light and sound show will depict the Assam Movement, and songs of prominent artists will be played throughout the day.
Chief adviser of AASU, Samujjal Bhattacharya, welcomed the government's initiative, stating it was a long-pending demand to honor the martyrs.
Bhattacharya emphasized that the goals of the Assam Movement, including the implementation of the Assam Accord and deportation of foreigners, are yet to be fully achieved.
