IndiGo Crisis: Massive Flight Disruptions
IndiGo, a big airline in India, has been having a lot of problems lately.
Many of their flights have been cancelled, and passengers are very upset.
The government is now watching IndiGo closely to make sure they fix their problems.
Passengers have complained about not being able to find their luggage, having to pay a lot more for new tickets, and not getting good information from the airline.
The government has even put a limit on how much airlines can charge for tickets to help people.
IndiGo says they are trying to fix things and have started flying more flights again.
They have also started hiring more pilots to help with the problems.
Some people think IndiGo didn't plan well and is taking advantage of the situation, while IndiGo says the new rules about pilot rest times made it hard to keep flying as usual.
IndiGo faced massive operational disruptions and flight cancellations, with over 1,000 flights cancelled on December 5, 2025, and 1,600 cancellations on December 6, 2025.
The Civil Aviation Ministry conducted a fortnightly review of IndiGo's operations and issued a show-cause notice to CEO Pieter Elbers and COO Isidre Porqueras.
Passengers complained about poor communication, lost baggage, high rescheduling fees, and significant personal hardships, including missing weddings and funerals.
The government capped airfares between Rs 7,500 and Rs 18,000 to prevent overcharging during the crisis, and IndiGo was directed to complete refunds and deliver separated baggage within 48 hours.
IndiGo reported early signs of improvement, with daily flights recovering to over 1,500 and resuming pilot hiring, but the situation remains critical with ongoing disruptions.
