Kandhamal to Become a Black Pepper Cultivation Hub
Imagine Kandhamal, a place famous for its turmeric, is starting a new project.
They're going to grow lots of black pepper, the stuff you put on food!
The government is helping farmers by giving them land.
About 4,000 families will be involved, and they will get help from experts.
The project will cover 500 acres of land.
It is expected to start next month.
After three years, the farmers can start harvesting and selling the pepper.
This should help the farmers earn more money, because black pepper is very popular.
Kandhamal district in Odisha will begin large-scale black pepper cultivation.
The project spans 500 acres across five blocks, involving around 4,000 households.
Cultivation will be under the Mukhya Mantri Jana-Jati Jeevika Mission, a tribal livelihood initiative.
The Integrated Tribal Development Agency will manage the project with support from the horticulture department and KVK.
Farmers are expected to earn between Rs 4.5 lakh to Rs 5.4 lakh per acre annually after harvesting.
