Karnataka Allows IPL Matches at Chinnaswamy Stadium Amid Pending Stampede Case
The Karnataka government has allowed the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) to hold IPL matches at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
This decision comes despite the fact that the Karnataka High Court has not yet given permission to file a chargesheet for a stampede that happened at the same stadium on June 4, 2025, which killed 11 people.
The government's approval is conditional on strict safety measures.
The RCB team, which plays at this stadium, has announced a memorial and compensation for the victims' families.
Additionally, there is news that Adar Poonawalla, the CEO of the Serum Institute of India, might buy the RCB team.
The High Court is still deciding on the chargesheet for the stampede, and the stadium's safety upgrades are ongoing.
Karnataka government granted conditional permission to KSCA to host IPL matches at M Chinnaswamy Stadium from March to July 2026.
Permission is subject to strict safety compliance and continuous monitoring following a June 4, 2025, stampede that killed 11 fans.
Karnataka High Court has not yet cleared the filing of a chargesheet for the stampede, delaying legal proceedings.
RCB announced a memorial and Rs 25 lakh compensation for the families of the victims.
Adar Poonawalla expressed interest in buying the RCB team, with Diageo planning to divest its stake.
