TSMC Starts 2nm Chip Volume Production in Q4 2025
TSMC, the world's leading chipmaker, has started making 2-nanometer chips in large quantities in the last part of 2025.
These new chips are made in a factory in Kaohsiung using special technology that makes them faster and more energy-efficient.
They are better than the previous 3nm chips in speed and power use.
TSMC is also working on an even better version of these chips for 2026.
These advanced chips are important for things like AI and mobile devices because they use less energy and work better.
TSMC began volume production of 2nm chips in Q4 2025, meeting its original roadmap.
Production is centered at Fab 22 in Kaohsiung using first-generation nanosheet transistor technology.
2nm chips offer 10% to 15% speed increase or 25% to 30% power reduction compared to 3nm chips.
Transistor density is increased by more than 15% in the 2nm process.
TSMC is developing the N2P process, an enhanced version of 2nm, for mass production in H2 2026.
