NDMC Approves Rs 6.08 Crore Replacement of Connaught Place Escalators
The New Delhi Municipal Council plans to replace seven broken escalators in Connaught Place.
These escalators are in busy underground walkways.
They were installed around the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Years of heavy use have caused repeated mechanical problems.
The council says repairing them again is no longer practical.
The replacement work will include new steps, handrails, controls and safety equipment.
The project will cost Rs 6.08 crore.
It should take 34 weeks, followed by a warranty and several years of maintenance.
NDMC approved a Rs 6.08 crore project to replace seven non-functional subway escalators in Connaught Place.
The escalators are located at KG Marg, Statesman House, Gopaldas and Super Bazaar subways.
Officials said repeated repairs are no longer feasible because of recurring mechanical faults and heavy use.
The overhaul includes new drive units, controllers, trusses, steps, handrails and upgraded outdoor safety mechanisms.
The project is scheduled for completion within 34 weeks and includes a one-year warranty plus a five-year maintenance contract.
