Mumbai Drug Case: Key Aide of International Drug Lord Extradited from Dubai
A man named Salman Shaikh, who police say worked closely with a big international drug dealer named Dola, has been brought back to Mumbai from Dubai.
Police believe Salman helped run a drug business that connected Dubai and India.
He is accused of being involved in many drug cases, and a special international alert, called a Red Corner Notice, was issued for him.
He is one of several people recently sent back to India from the UAE for drug-related crimes.
Police have seized large amounts of drugs in cases where Salman's name came up, including a factory that made illegal substances.
He was arrested in August 2022 in a major drug seizure case and had been hiding in Dubai since then.
He is now in police custody in Mumbai as the investigation continues.
Salman Saleem Shaikh, an alleged close aide of drug lord Salim Ismail Dola, was extradited from Dubai to Mumbai on Saturday.
Shaikh is accused of having links with drug cartels both internationally and within India, operating a network between Dubai and Mumbai.
A Red Corner Notice was issued against Shaikh two years ago in connection with drug cases, including a large mephedrone seizure in 2022.
He is the fourth individual deported from the UAE in relation to drug peddling cases involving the Mumbai crime branch.
Shaikh is currently in police custody until November 7, with a chargesheet already submitted against seven accused in the 2022 mephedrone seizure case.
