Railways to receive prototype EMUs with automatic doors
The Central Railway is getting two new train sets called EMUs.
These trains will have automatic doors to keep passengers safe.
They are being made by a factory in Chennai and will be ready by the end of March 2026.
The trains will start running from April 2026.
This idea came after a bad accident in Mumbra where people were hurt because they were hanging onto the train doors.
The new trains will help prevent such accidents by keeping the doors closed automatically.
Central Railway to receive two non-AC EMU rakes with automatic doors by March 2026.
Rakes developed following the Mumbra train accident on June 9, 2025.
Accident involved commuters falling from open doors, resulting in 4 deaths and several injuries.
Rakes expected to be introduced on the suburban network from April 2026 after trials.
Automatic doors and vestibules aim to enhance passenger safety and reduce risks associated with overcrowding.
