Mamata Banerjee opposes MGNREGA norms
Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, is very upset with the central government.
They made new rules for a job scheme called MGNREGA, which gives people 100 days of work.
She thinks these rules are not fair and tore a copy of the rules in protest.
She also said that the central government owes West Bengal a lot of money for this scheme.
If her party wins the next elections, she plans to start a similar job scheme run by the state instead.
She also asked her party leaders to work together and help people with their voter list problems.
She said that the central government is using funds as a weapon against Bengal and is throttling rural welfare programs out of jealousy and hatred.
She also highlighted reforms under the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme, which provides old-age pensions.
Additionally, the Opposition in the Lok Sabha debated election reforms, questioning the impartiality of the Election Commission and alleging that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is intended to delete electors rather than authenticate them.
They also expressed doubts about the use of EVMs and called for greater transparency in the electoral process.
Mamata Banerjee tore up a note outlining new MGNREGA norms at a public meeting in Cooch Behar.
She called the new conditions 'valueless and insulting' and vowed to run the state's own work scheme.
Banerjee accused the BJP-led central government of using funds as a weapon against Bengal and throttling rural welfare programs out of 'jealousy and hatred.'
She claimed that large funds remained pending from the Centre under the rural jobs scheme, amounting to Rs 51,627 crore.
Banerjee announced plans to introduce a state-run 100-day job scheme if re-elected, increasing the current 70-day work period under Karmashree.
