Mohali MC starts sealing, auctioning properties over tax defaults
Some big government offices in Mohali haven't paid their property taxes for many years.
The city's local government, called the Municipal Corporation, is now taking strict action.
They are sealing (locking) these offices and even planning to sell some properties to recover the money.
The biggest defaulter is an organization called GMADA, which owes almost Rs 10 crore.
Other offices like Labour Bhawan and the Public Works Department also owe money.
The local government has warned that if taxes aren't paid on time, they will take immediate action without any further notice.
Government departments and state-run institutions in Mohali have failed to pay property taxes for years, with some dues pending since 2013-14.
The Municipal Corporation (MC) has initiated a strict recovery drive, including sealing and auctioning properties of defaulters.
GMADA alone owes nearly Rs 10 crore in property taxes, with dues pending since 2016-17.
Labour Bhawan has not cleared property tax amounting to Rs 11.34 lakh up to 2025-26.
