Vineeta Singh Calls for Action on Mumbai Air Pollution
Vineeta Singh, who is the CEO of SUGAR Cosmetics and a judge on Shark Tank India, is very worried about the air quality in Mumbai.
She said that the Air Quality Index (AQI) is very high, which can make people sick, especially with cancer.
She saw kids, old people, and even her own son outside breathing in the polluted air.
She asked the authorities why they are not doing anything to stop the pollution.
She suggested that they should stop construction for a few months and use special methods like cloud seeding to clean the air, just like they do in China and Korea.
She also shared a study that says one in nine people in India might get cancer in their lifetime, and air pollution is a big reason for lung cancer.
The AQI in Mumbai was 172 in the afternoon, but some places like Mulund West had even worse air quality.
Vineeta Singh expressed concern over Mumbai's worsening Air Quality Index (AQI), which reached 172 on Thursday afternoon.
She highlighted that Mulund West had the worst AQI reading of 255, falling into the 'poor' category.
Singh urged authorities to implement strict dust and pollution control measures, similar to those in China and Korea.
She suggested halting construction for a few months and considering cloud seeding due to Mumbai's high humidity levels.
Singh cited a study by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) indicating that one in nine people in India are at risk of developing cancer, with air pollution being a significant factor.
