Bengaluru Entrepreneur's 5-Year Unlocked Helmet Trust Experiment Goes Viral
A man in Bengaluru, India, wanted to find out if people in his city are honest.
His name is Siddharth Dialani, and he owns a company called BharatAgri.
He and his wife started a fun experiment five years ago.
Every time they parked their two-wheeler, they left their helmets unlocked.
They put the helmets on the seat or the side mirror.
After five whole years, nobody has stolen their helmets.
That made Mr. Dialani very happy, and he thinks Bengaluru is a city full of trustworthy people.
He said that if a helmet ever gets stolen, they will stop going to that part of town.
Some people online agreed that Bengaluru is a very honest city.
Other people said the helmets never get stolen because they are not expensive enough.
Siddharth Dialani, founder and CEO of BharatAgri, and his wife ran a five-year social experiment in Bengaluru leaving their helmets unlocked on their two-wheeler.
The helmets were left on the side mirror or seat every time the couple parked anywhere in the city.
After five years, none of the helmets had been stolen, which Dialani cited as evidence that Bengaluru is a high-trust city.
Dialani said he and his wife would stop going to any locality if their helmet was stolen there.
Social media reactions were split, with some declaring Bengaluru uniquely trustworthy and others saying inexpensive helmets may simply not be worth stealing.

Validity of the experiment results
Supporters: Bengaluru is a high-trust city
Five years without a stolen helmet proves Bengaluru is a high-trust city, and low income disparity means people have little motivation to steal.
Skeptics: The experiment proves little
The experiment is low-cost, so a cheaper helmet may not be worth stealing; the real answer would only come from testing with an expensive helmet.
Citywide versus area-specific trust
Supporters: Bengaluru is a high-trust city
Bengaluru as a whole is unusually trustworthy, and no other major city in India even remotely compares.

In areas like Shivajinagar gullies, Iliyas Nagar, Tilak Nagar, or behind Deepanjali Nagar, the two-wheeler would vanish along with the helmet.
