Datia By‑poll: 72% Turnout, BJP vs Congress Clash
A by‑poll election was held in Datia, a town in India, to choose a new member for the state assembly.
About 72 out of every 100 people voted.
Two main candidates, one from the ruling party and one from the opposition, were fighting for the seat.
Some people said the police stopped a voting helper from the opposition, but the local police said nothing happened.
The final results will be announced on August 3.
Voting finished peacefully with about 72% turnout by 6 PM.
21 candidates contested, mainly BJP’s Ashutosh Tiwari vs Congress’s Ghanshyam Singh.
Congress alleged police removed its polling agent; the district magistrate denied the claim.
The by‑poll was triggered after former MLA Rajendra Bharti was disqualified and jailed for fraud.
Results will be announced on August 3 after counting.
