Gujarat Achieves 94% Female Births via Sex-Sorted Semen
The Gujarat government has been using a special technology called Sex-sorted Semen Technology (SST) to help cows and buffaloes have more female babies.
This technology has been very successful, with 94% of the animals giving birth to female babies in the last four years.
The government started using this technology in 2022, and it has become much more popular because the cost of the treatment has gone down from Rs 300 to Rs 50.
This technology helps in increasing milk production, improving the quality of the animals, and reducing the number of stray animals.
The government is also planning to set up a facility to produce more of this special semen at affordable prices.
94% of animals impregnated via SST have given birth to female babies in the last four years.
The technology was implemented by the Gujarat government starting in 2022.
The fee for one dose of sex-sorted semen has decreased from Rs 300 to Rs 50.
In 2024-25, 1,30,925 animals were administered the dose, and 1,00,178 animals in 2025 till October.
A Rs 47.50 crore project has been approved to establish a sex-sorted semen production facility in Patan.
