Protests Erupt in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa After Emergency Rule Declared

Pakistan's federal government has declared emergency rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The change suspends the province's government, which is led by Imran Khan's PTI party.

Many people protested in the streets and said they opposed the move.

Chief Minister Suhail Afridi warned that people would react strongly.

He said protesters could march toward Peshawar.

President Asif Ali Zardari approved the measure after a cabinet decision and advice from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

PTI says the move disregards the choice voters made.

Former US envoy Zalmay Khalilzad warned it could add to instability and violence.
