Every Bookshop Needs a Cat Offers Gentle Comfort Fiction
Amane Morikawa inherits an old bookstore in the seaside town of Onomichi.
She soon notices that many cats visit the shop.
One cat, Sensei, sleeps on top of a grandfather clock.
As Amane explores the town, she reconnects with friends and learns more about her family.
The cats help her discover a hidden manuscript.
The manuscript inspires her to return to publishing and reopen the bookstore.
The story is about people trying to find happiness and direction in life.
It is a calm, comforting book, although the cats are more like observers than main characters.
Amane Morikawa inherits her grandfather’s second-hand bookstore in Onomichi, Japan.
The bookstore attracts numerous cats, including a black cat named Sensei.
A hidden manuscript leads Morikawa back to publishing and prompts her to reopen the shop.
The novel explores self-discovery, friendship, difficult lives, and finding one’s place.
The 280-page comfort read is praised for its warmth but criticized for underusing its cats and underdeveloped characters.
