Musk Renews Starlink Pitch as India Reviews Security Clearances

Elon Musk says Starlink could bring internet to parts of India that have weak or no mobile coverage.

He also accused unnamed powerful people of blocking the service, but did not say who they were.

India’s government said the same security rules apply to all licensed satellite companies.

The companies still need security clearance before they can begin commercial service.

Starlink says it has prepared equipment and operations for India and will keep Indian users’ data in the country.

The government has issued licences and temporary spectrum for testing, but that is not permission to launch paid service.

At the same conference, Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said India wants to increase its number of 5G users to one billion by 2030.
